I think that there is beauty in a certain simplicity that is present in the story, and a certain beauty that can only be found amidst loss and suffering. Each character wants something, desires something -- whether that is being loved, accepted, finding the truth, fulfilling a promise, or having those around them bear less suffering and pain. Each character, at their core, has a simple dream. Each character suffers greatly to pursue those dreams. Like Jovian (or later on the MC), who was willing to sacrifice everything -- including his life, his death, being loved, being able to live while alive, and indeed his very soul; who thought that all the suffering and loss in the world put together could not outweigh the simple dream that those around him may have the tiniest bit of light to guide them in their suffering. A dream, an ideal: like a child's fantasy, and with a child's will, purity, and innocence.
I've played other games like Eternum, Cross Realms, Imperial Chronicles, City of Broken Dreamers, 12 Goddesses, Once in a Lifetime, Eden, Dawnfall, and parts of others like Cosy Cafe, Projekt: Passion, etc etc. A lot of games use humor, romance, tension, sadness, world-building, plot, game design, (or a huge amount of money like Eternum) to try to make an interesting game that is worth playing. And perhaps, yes, they do make an excellent game with excellent storytelling. But few make a story that is worth writing or worth telling, even with everything else stripped away. Few tell a story that is worth listening to even IF (keyword: 'IF') it wasn't a game, wasn't interesting at all, had bad writing, horrendous design, lacked sfx or a coherent and consistent plot (not saying any of this is true, just what if's). This is one such story -- one that is worth hearing, one that a person may be better off and not worse off knowing.
Although, perhaps in this world, only a decreasing number of those who still truly remember once having a trace of conscience -- and not just a facade of one -- may appreciate such things. Anyway, I wrote too much, out.

Haven't played in a while, but MBML comes two years after the events of Sicae. IIRC MC's family related to (part of?) the Dietrich clan, and Kana is his cousin(?). Kana's mother, Georgia, was the former head of the intelligence branch who was killed just before Sicae. His father worked for the mysterious guy who invented the CGS, whose identity was a mystery in Sicae. So he became the (successful) test Subject Number 3, just as the MC in Sicae was one of the failed Number Zeros.
One of the goals in Sicae was the elimination of the serum and its users, so that is being accomplished by the clan in MBML. It seems like during Sicae the clan was able to force the president of Quinara to accept Sicae as a legitimate security contractor to do shady things for the government. Umm, I don't really remember but I think Claire (Aveline) Roth hijacked the mafia and was a major antagonist at least so far in Sicae. So, Claire (Aveline) somehow joined the Dietrich clan and Hera regained partial and superficial control of the mafia, but Bonheur held a significant amount of power and hid right under their noses, trying to progress his experiments to resurrect the dead.
Also, I think Amberleigh Athanasia Eirastraea is the deity traditionally worshipped by the Dietrich clan (who watched the initiation of Lisa into the clan), who, as a law enforcement officer, guided Emma's relationship when she and MBML's MC were kids, before being relocated elsewhere and eventually helping the clan break into a prison to interrogate Nicole's ex in Sicae. She also told a story of a battle between the conceptual deities of Life and Death on an island, and how Life removed the deity of Death by sacrificing part of her life force. All while a yellow lightning bolt on her cheek was in the center of the screen.
Finally, MBML seems to be told as flashbacks, as the MC is telling his story to E (Amber Eirastraea's servant?). I haven't played this update yet (will do so now) but I believe Leah is some sort of deity as well, since Amber takes her away at the end of the Emma Route.
