In Can I Make 100 Friends?, Nekura Ayako decides to leave behind her introverted middle-school self and prepare for a fresh high-school debut. Alone in her room, she practices self-introductions over and over, determined to become a new, more confident version of herself. However, despite all her preparation, Ayako completely overlooks one crucial detail about making friends. Through a strange turn of events, she befriends a boy with questionable behavior. She somehow comes to the misguided conclusion that putting herself in awkward, inappropriate situations will help her make more friends. Driven by this misunderstanding, Ayako sets out on an unusual, eccentric plan, one that leads her down a bizarre path of social trials, misunderstandings, and personal growth.
