But.
The issue that Ellie has is called 'selective mutism', and it is NOT as many believe, and also described in this game, something the person just decide to do. It is a phobia or anxiety disorder, and the person just can't bring him or her to talk even if they want. In some situations or all the time. And as with all anxiety disorders it is important not to push the person into doing what triggers the anxiety as that just makes it worse. They do that in the game and that i why I feel I must write this.
I have a young relative with this problem. He is nine now and stopped talking when he was three. For a long time he only talked to his mother, then he began talking to his father, and after something like two years he also spoke to me. Now he talks to most people he knows, but still can't make himself talk to unknown people.
