In Back to Freedom, you play as a former military man who made a crucial mistake during a mission that resulted in the death of several of your comrades. You were sentenced to ten years in prison because of your mistake. Will you be able to live a peaceful life after you get out of prison? Will your past continue to haunt you? It's not easy knowing that you are the reason why your fellow soldiers are dead. Now you must come to terms with what you did and how the world has changed since you were in prison.

The MC's greatest crime was failing to obey a direct order. If it had been an illegal order, he would have had to obey it but he would have had a right of redress against the officer who gave the order. The order to shoot the girl was not, so far as I can see, an illegal order under the circumstances. I am talking about Queens Regulations (UK) but I don't imagine that military law in the US is that much different.
It is an offence under military law but not under civil law. He would've faced a court martial, spent perhaps a couple of years in a military prison and maybe would have been given a dishonourable discharge.
